"CERRO PICUCHO "
My name is Enrique Hernández , I am a partner and director of the Association of Amateur Astronomy Uruguay.
Back in early 2003 with Walter Fontana (aka " Picucho ") began the arduous task of carving a pair of mirrors of 35cm diameter telescope type Newton.
Walter
already had some practice he had carved a 20cm years earlier and was his idea to undertake this "demonic and crazy" project.
Of course, with such a diameter, the focal ratio of 4.5 could not happen because a tube more than 1.5 meters of these characteristics and would become very difficult to move. The end result, after more than a year of work, was my mirror f4.15, and the Picucho of f4.25
As we delayed both in this great project and my 114mm f8 Tasco equatorial I was doing "boy," he carved in a month a 23cm f6, which became my 2nd portable telescope but Dobson type mount .
After having the mirror of 35cm. early and waiting for your aluminized , I made the idea of \u200b\u200bmounting it in a fixed observatory.
After some "negotiations" with my dear wife, I managed to get me granted the usufruct of a small space in the back of my home (2.40x2.40 m)
The construction began back in late September 2006 with the great help of my son BRUNO less than 3 years, starting with the foundations accordingly. (To think that Bruno was in the belly of his mother when I started roughening of 35!)
At the time of writing (almost 2 years later) I'm about to put the roof sheets.
it for now and accept criticism and / or advice.
- Cutting and carving the telescope mirrors
Plates and tiles 25mm thick where to cut off 23 and 35cm discs.
35cm hand tool. It took 3 hours to cut each disk
Starting grinding with carborundum No. 45
few months later we set up the cake of pitch ( tar and resin)
Polishing
